What are veneers?

middle aged woman with blonde hair smiling white teethVeneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are made especially for your mouth and can be used to cover a few or all of your teeth. The veneer is placed right over the top of the specific tooth to make it look whiter and more uniform without being noticeable. The veneer is carefully crafted to blend in with your smile and created the illusion of symmetrical teeth.

Our goal at Springs Family Dental is to have you leave our office with teeth that look natural and beautiful while also carefully retaining their proper function. As we prepare and place your veneers, we are careful not to alter the alignment of your bite. If your bite does need improvement, we can discuss other treatments that can build up or improve your biting surfaces such as crowns, onlays, or bonding.

The goal is always to create a beautiful smile that functions as it should—this includes helping you achieve the smile you have always wanted.

Are veneers right for me?

Sometimes we want a specific treatment, but we learn that it will not produce the desired result. Your dentist in Colorado Springs will let you know what to expect with your veneers. We also listen carefully as you describe your goals. If veneers do not produce the result, we may recommend other treatments or veneers coupled with other treatments.

Other considerations include the state of your teeth and gums. In some cases, you may need pretreatments to make you a better candidate for dental veneers. In other cases, another therapy may be suggested.

Your dentist will discuss all options with you and help you decide on the best treatment for your smile and your oral health.

Why veneers?

Veneers offer a quick solution that significantly improves the way your teeth look. Braces, dental implants, and other treatments require many appointments before you see results. And braces can take more than a year to bring your teeth in line. Veneers change the look and feel of your teeth almost immediately with little waiting involved.

What can veneers do for your smile? Using veneers, we can:

  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Brighten your smile by concealing areas of discoloration
  • Improve the appearance of your alignment
  • Cover chips, cracks, and other cosmetic damage
  • Create the illusion of teeth that are all the same length
  • Hide misshapen teeth
  • Conceal gummy smiles

The first step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Terveen. If you and Dr. Terveen agree that veneers are the right option, we’ll begin by prepping your teeth for the veneers. Because a small amount of tooth structure needs to be removed for the veneers to fit correctly, it’s essential to recognize that once this part of the process finishes, it will be essential to keep your teeth protected with veneers. Additionally, veneers are considered permanent because of the preparation or pretreatment.

Once your teeth are prepped, Dr. Terveen will take impressions and photos. We use this information to provide specific instructions to the lab that crafts your veneers. Additionally, we place temporary veneers to protect your teeth and prevent sensitivity while you wait for your permanent veneers to arrive in our dental office.

As soon as your veneers return from the lab, we’ll call you back to our office. At this point, Dr. Terveen will bond the veneers to your teeth. We’ll check the fit and the appearance. You’ll be amazed at the instant difference in your smile! We can’t wait to see the results as well.

Are veneers expensive?

The cost of cosmetic dentistry—veneers included—varies widely. Some considerations include:

  • The number of veneers
  • Any pretreatment to bring you in candidacy for veneers
  • Difficulty of procedure

Your dentist or a member of our team will discuss the cost with you prior to beginning work.

We do accept a variety of payment options, including CareCredit. This card allows you to pay for your dentistry over time. The application process is simple, and a member of our team can walk you through the steps. It typically takes only a few minutes to learn whether or not you qualify. You can use CareCredit for medical and dental if your caregiver is a participant.

Also, ask a member of our team about our exclusive membership plan for discounts on various treatments.

How do I take care of my veneers?

Because we remove a small amount of enamel to flush your veneers to your tooth, it’s essential to understand that veneers are permanent. For this reason, it is important to take excellent care of your new smile. This includes taking care of your gums and existing teeth.

Taking care of your teeth is vital because periodontal disease and root cavities can lead to tooth loss and even veneer failure. For these reasons, you should visit your dentist regularly for checkups and adopt an excellent oral care routine at home.

If you grind and clench your teeth, it’s important to wear a nightguard to prevent veneer and tooth wear.woman smiling while playing with her curly hair

If you play sports, never forget your mouthguard!

Finally, never use your teeth or veneers as a tool to carry a heavy back or twist off a bottle cap.

Your dentist in Colorado Springs wants you to make the most of your veneers and enjoy your new smile long-term.
