Frequently Asked Questions

At Springs Family Dental, we know that the pain associated with jaw issues such as TMJ, teeth grinding, and migraines can be debilitating. We offer NTI therapy treatment as an option to help ease your pain.

NTI Therapy

NTI therapy uses a non-invasive splint placed over your front teeth to reduce the amount of pressure when you close your mouth. It keeps your back teeth from connecting and grinding, alleviating the tension that can cause migraines or TMJ. It is removable, meaning that it won’t impede the way that you live.

Contact Our Colorado Springs Office

If you suffer from TMJ or find that migraines and grinding are a part of your daily routine, give our office a call to discuss your options. Our Colorado Springs dental team believes that no one deserves to live in pain.

What Is TMD/TMJ?

Temporomandibular joint disorder is a dysfunction of the hinge that connects the jaw to the skull. This hinge is one of the most mobile joints in your body and is responsible for proper chewing, talking, facial expressions, and even yawning.

People who suffer from TMD/TMJ often have pain and tenderness in their face, jaw, and neck and find it hard to open their mouths and chew. TMJ can be caused by various issues, including an injury to the jaw, grinding or clenching, arthritis, and stress. Sometimes, however, there is no clear cause for the dysfunction.

Migraines

If you’ve tried other treatments for migraines with limited success, please call our Colorado Springs dental office for an evaluation with Dr. Terveen. He can look for the tell-tale signs that indicate that your migraines may actually be caused by a dysfunction in your temporomandibular joint.

How Does NTI Splint Therapy Work?

An NTI splint is a simple device worn between your front teeth, preventing contact between your upper and lower back teeth. The pressure from this contact can cause pain or discomfort. The device is made specifically to fit your mouth and is both removable and non-invasive. It is an excellent treatment option for those who suffer from migraines or daily grinding of their teeth but don’t want to consider riskier surgical treatments.

Aimee

I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Terveen. I’ve suffered from TMD for years, and he made me a custom nightguard that was never offered to me before by any other dentist. He also had great insight about other possibilities for my TMD, and different remedies that had never been presented to me before. Very smart and thorough, with an approachable, friendly and relaxed manner about him. The office is new and very clean, and the staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. Just a truly exceptional experience!
