Dental Crowns in Colorado Springs, CO
Damaged teeth can have a serious impact on your life. You may suffer from chronic pain, avoid healthy, nutritious foods, and feel self-conscious about smiling.
At Springs Family Dental, we want to help our Colorado Springs patients have smiles that function comfortably and look great. Dental crowns are a versatile treatment option that allows us to repair and restore your damaged teeth.
What Are Crowns?
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped shells made of ceramic or various metals that fit over the top of the damaged tooth and completely cover it. We offer both metal-free all-ceramic crowns, which look remarkably like natural teeth, as well as high-noble gold crowns.
While both types of crowns have specific advantages, we typically recommend ceramic crowns for the teeth that are visible when you smile. These crowns are designed specifically to blend in beautifully with your other teeth. We recognize that having a smile that looks good is important, so Dr. Terveen takes great care in designing your crowns.
When Would We Recommend a Crown?
We use crowns in a number of cases. Some of the most common situations our Colorado Springs patients face that require a dental crown are:
- Repairing teeth that are cracked or fractured
- Restoring teeth that are small or eroded
- Building up teeth to fix a misaligned bite
- Concealing a tooth that is poorly shaped or discolored
- Protecting a tooth that has become brittle following root canal therapy
- Replacing a tooth as a part of a single unit dental implant
How Do I Get a Crown?
If you have a problematic tooth, call our Colorado Springs dental office and request an evaluation with Dr. Terveen. If he determines that a crown is the right option, we’ll begin the process (after you are numb and comfortable, of course) by shaping your tooth to prepare it for the crown.
Dr. Terveen will then take impressions and photographs. This information is sent to a dental lab that creates your restoration, along with our dentist'ss specific instructions for crafting the crown. We will fit you with a temporary crown to protect the shaped tooth and keep you comfortable.
When your crown comes back from the lab, we’ll call you and let you know so you can return to our dental office to have the crown placed. We’ll show you the crown and check the appearance and fit. Once both you and Dr. Terveen are satisfied, your crown will be bonded into place.
Caring for a crown is simple – all you have to do is brush and floss it just like you would a normal tooth. Return to our office for routine cleanings and examinations so we can make sure your crown is in great condition and review your overall oral health.
